I’m probably very late
to the game but how awesome are podcasts!?
While YouTubing (if
that’s not already a word then it most definitely should be) Andy Samburg one
afternoon I came across a pretty great podcast called Nerdist and the rest is
history as they say!
Every spare moment I
had between revision and general life I would listen to these podcasts. These
are hilarious and informative hour or so interviews with some of the coolest,
funniest and most interesting people out there. With hours of chat from the
likes of Rainn Wilson, Nick Kroll, Morgan Freeman and Bill Gates, why would you
not listen?
From the Nerdist I
began to delve deeper in to the seemingly bottomless well of podcasts. There
are podcasts on basically everything you could ever wish to know about.
Suffering from anxiety? You can listen to umpteen podcasts hosted by
psychologists dishing out advice on how to deal with stress. A history buff? Then
download the History Extra podcast. News? . . . I think you get the picture.
Currently I have around
35 podcasts on my itunes, ranging from Women’s Hour Daily Podcast to Desert
Island Discs to WTF with Marc Maron to Here’s The Thing with Alec Baldwin.
Some of the ones I
find most interesting and the ones I listen to regularly are ones concerning
the world of media. Want to know what it takes to become a TV
producer/writer/researcher/director? Then listen to the Nerdist Writers Panel
and The Daily Show Podcast Without Jon Stewart (my favourites).
If you’re a fan of
Friends, Saturday Night Live, Mindy Project then there is a specific podcast
out there for you!
Since I discovered the
breadth of podcasts available I have been listening to them while I run.
Whenever I tell people this they usually react like, ‘how can you run without
listening to music?’ But there is something about listening to people talk and
discuss interesting things that makes you forget how tired and in pain you are.
Podcasts simply take away the monotony of running and you also learn a thing or
two.
I totally understand
that I’m like ten years late to the game but better late than never ey!?
