SUMMER SCHOOLING IT UP WITH THE ITALIANS!

Just over a week ago I started working at an Italian Summer School not far from where I live. The summer school is for Italian students who want to learn and improve their English (or if they just want a holiday!) The job is for 4 and a bit weeks and during these weeks I'm staying on campus in student housing. It's good practise for September I suppose! The days are long but very enjoyable. We wake up pretty early in order to supervise over 140 Italian children during breakfast and then throughout the day we supervise break, lunch, supper and in between we organise activities such as football, volleyball (which I'm getting better at!), swimming, computer room and dance. On some days we go on trips to places such as St. Davids, Cardiff, Llandeilo, Dinefwr Castle etc. In the night we hold activities such as Casino nights, Karaoke, quiz and Discos like this Pirate themed one.

We also get to go to places such as Heatherton in Pembrokshire! Go-karts anyone?!

We played a lot of laser clay shooting, pistol shooting, scelectrix and bumper boats! After we finished at the activity park we hopped on the bus and we headed to Tenby to have a walk around town and to go to the beach. Even though it was raining a bit in the morning and God knows it had been raining, or should I say, absolutely poring, for the last couple of days or even weeks, it turned out to be a very sunny and beautiful day that made Tenby look pretty darn tootin' cool!

We perused around town for a bit, well when I say perused I mean sitting down drinking cappuccino and eating carrot cake whilst checking the tennis score on my phone! I missed the Wimbledon final and the British Grand Prix for these Italians, they better appreciate it!!! On the beach the children played some football, volleyball and did some sand writing. They even drew an awesome Homer Simpson completed with his catchphrase "D'oh" in the sand! How cool! Some crazy kids even went swimming in the sea! I mean this is Wales, the sea is probably on the verge of turning in to a sheet of ice! As an activity leader the bright toxic green bags you can see sprinkled on the sand are good to keep track of the kids as they run off everywhere even if the children don't feel the same way!

We went up to Heathrow terminal 5 last Tuesday to pick these guys up. We had to get up and leave by 4am! 4am! Did you get that - 4am! If you didn't get to sleep in till 1am it's not so fun to have 3 hours sleep and then work for close to 22 hours! However I really enjoy talking with the children, playing games and dancing with them 'cos some are just clean off, so getting up that early wasn't all that bad!

Next week we take this group of Italians back to Heathrow and whilst we're there we might as well pick up another group of summer schoolians (yes, I did just make that word up. I like it though.) Before that though we've got a lot more activities to do with the groups we have now. So, best get crackin'!
