CAMDEN & DJANGO

Last Friday my mum and I headed in to London quite early because we needed to be in Chelsea by 11am for a doctor's appointment. Once that was over with we went to grab a cinnamon roll and a coffee from a little cafe around the corner. While eating our breakfast we decided to go to Camden as neither of us had ever been there before. The place was filled with hipsters, rockers and nearly everyone in between. Vintage shops and rock Tee's filled the streets. I liked it. It was, as my mum said, filled with the same sort of stuff in every shop/stall, but I liked it. We walked around for ages looking at different stalls with jewellery, clothes, music. I did grab an awesome t-shirt which had Jay Z on the cover of Rolling Stones magazine on it which I love!

After walking around for ages we decided to have lunch in this little Brazilian restaurant just off the main street in Camden. We both had some sort of steak with salsa, steamed rice and salad. It was one of the tastiest things I have ever eaten in my life. Yuuum :) I also had an acai berry cocktail which almost set my face on fire because it had so much alcohol in it (but once the ice melted and watered it down a bit it wasn't as bad!). We went all out and had a dessert - a butterscotch pannacotta with coconut shortbread. Delish!

With our stomachs full we headed back on the train :)

The next day we went to watch Django in Staines. What an awesome film! A nice little girly film - Naaaaat! We always end up going to action films such as the Expendables and Bond! Seriously, Django was awesome! Maybe better than Les Mis....? :)

Super Song Sunday

This week I've chosen some B.B. King and Jools Holland for my Super Song Sunday. While we were at Camden Market on Friday (post to come) we went in to a record shop and some rhythm and blues was playing and it's just something about the sound of the piano with the blues guitar and sax which I think is just frickin' awesome!

I'll be seeing Jools Holland for the third time this summer at Carfest South :)

Enjoy :)

OMG RYAN GOSLIN!

Monday afternoon we decided on an impromptu cinema visit. I'd been working all day since around 8am so I was in desperate need of a break! We were unsure what film to go and watch because most of the films we wanted to go and see don't actually come out until Friday. Eventually we decided on Gangsta Squad - the new Ryan Gosling film. A bunch of us caught the train to Staines, ate our Subways and finally got to the cinema. And oh my word - the film was actually awesome! One of the best I've ever seen. The whole thing was just so tense and emotional and exciting - crazy! The actors were awesome. The whole things was great! People were crying next to me and I felt like I wanted to shout at the screen sometimes because things were so tense! It was just an all round awesome film. Impromptu events are always the best. A day of work turned out to be quite an awesome day :)

SNOW IS FALLING . . .

I apologize for being MIA over the last couple of days but university work was thrust upon me and it felt like it was never going to end. However, today I presented my presentation so I can forget about that for a while! Anywho - back to what's been going on in my life other than work.

On Friday I woke up quite early becaus (yet again) I had to go in to London for a CT scan (for my back). I oppened the curtains and everywhere was white! Snow had hit Egham! I was wondering if I'd be able to get in to London because the trains might not be running (I know it's not far to London but still, trains are very tempermental!). I eventually got in to London, all the tubes were fine and I eventually reached Chelsea and the hospital. I had around 45mins to spare so I headed over Chelsea bridge to Battersea Park. The park looked absolutely awesome as it was blanketed with a layer of undisrupted snow. I only passed a handful of people as I walked on through the park - nice and relaxing!

After my scan I went to catch the tube from Sloane Sq. to Westminster, but oh no, there were no tubes running on this line. I eventually had to walk a mile to Knightsbridge, through a really posh resedential area (where I swear I saw Louise Redknapp in her massive Mercedes!) and get the tube from just outside Harvey Nichols to Waterloo and back home! I'm actually proud of myself for navigating myself through London (on my own) as I'm a newby to all of this 'hustlin' & Bustlin' city stuff, growing up in the middle of nowhere surrounded by fields!

When I got home I got in to warm clothes and cwtched up in a friends room to watch a film and some episodes of Friends & later that night we were all starving so we had a couple slices of pizza :)

My mam and dad also sent some pictures of Hendrix in the snow back home in Wales :)

(a late) SUPER SONG SUNDAY

Today I have chosen a singer that I discovered while watching a new Walk Off The Earth video on youtube. Her name is Selah Sue and she's a Belgian singer/songwriter. She's pretty awesome.

Have a listen

LES MISERABLES!

On Tuesday after a 9am & 12pm seminar I headed in to town to grab some stuff, came home and before I had time to sit down I was out of the door again. The whole block (minus a few people) went to Staines. We caught the train and walked straight to Nando's where I had a chicken burger and Peri-Peri chips. Yuuuuum :) Once all of us had finished our meals we went over to the cinema to watch Les Miserables. I'm not a big fan of musicals and neither are many of my friends that went to watch the film but we went to see it because everyone was raving at how awesome it is. Oh My Gosh - It was actually spectacular. Not in a billion years did I think that I'd love the film. To begin with I was like "Oh God, they're going to sing throughout the whole film. I'm not going to be able to endure this for 2 and a half hours." However, 10 minutes in to the film I had actually forgotten that everything was being sung and was totally immersed in the awesome acting and plot. Surprisingly I had never read or been to see Les Mis before so I knew nothing about the plot so everything was a shock. I loved it and would be willing to go and watch it again and again. The 2 and a half hours flew by and before I knew it we were on the train back to university!

Yes I did take a picture in the cinema, but it was during the trailers (Life of Pi) so that's fine, yeah?!

(Again I apologise about the quality of the pictures but my camera should be up and runing in the next few weeks. Yaaay :) )

SUPER SONG SUNDAY

This blog is a record of what I do, my interests and my hobbies. Therefore in this Super Sound Sunday series on the blog I want it to be a true representation of my musical taste. I have absolutely no clue what is number one, in the top 10 or even in the top 40 if I'm completely honest. It's not that I go out of my way to not know, I genuinely don't have a very big interest in today's pop music. Of course I do like some of today's music and I have seen many of them live in the past (Arctic Monkeys, Kasabian, Kaiser Chiefs etc). In general however, I do prefer older music. Rock, rap ... anything :) So, I wanted to just post my favourite music on this blog and not post  what other people are dancing to. As Weezer's Pork & Beans goes - "I'ma do the things that I wanna do I ain't got a thing to prove to you". This week's song has been a hard decision. Would it be Weezer with Pork & Beans or Limp Bizkit with Rollin'. I've had two more rocky songs on the blog the past two weeks, so I have chosen to go with the latter.

I was only 6 when this song came out (2000) but I remember listening to it over and over again as my brother and friends would play it on a loop. It's a song that I know all the words to and I love it!

Just keep rollin' baby.

Pilates & Chelsea

On Wednesday I went to my first proper pilates class just a few minutes away from the university. Because of my back injury I was advised to go to pilates to strengthen my core. However, I wasn't able to find any classes in my first term here at uni but this week I started a pilates course that runs until March so that'll be good :)

Yesterday I had to get up supper early (6:50am) in order to get an early train into London. After getting lost and walking about 2/3miles more than I needed to, I eventually arrived at the Chelsea Outpatient Centre where I had an appointment with a spinal surgeon (I have to go back there next Friday again . . .). Once I came out of the centre I went and had an early lunch in a place called 'My Old Dutch Pancake house' and I had a Chorizo, Pepperoni and Chili pancake and read my book. I was on my own so I decided to have a roam about Chelsea and Sloane Square as I had never been there before. I went in to a few shops and tried on two awesome tops on in Brandy Melville. They looked awesome on but I decided not to buy them because I'm a student and I'll probably need that money later on in the term (sensible eyyyy?!). That shop is awesome though! I sat down in Sloan Square for a bit just watching the world go by. Eventually I took the tube from Sloan Square to Westminster where I decided get off the train and walk back to Waterloo where my train left for Egham.

I love Westminster. It might be one of my favourite places in London. Even though it's rammed with tourists and people asking you to take pictures of them! I just like the palace and . . . well . ..  I just really like it for some reason!

BACK TO SCHOOL

On Sunday we headed back down the M4 to university. I had just about 3 weeks at home for the Christmas holidays which was nice :) We filled the car up until it was filled to nearly bursting point and once again I had to sit on half a seat the whole 230 miles to RH! It was a much nicer feeling driving through the university gates this term than last term as I now know people and have friends here so it wasn't nerve raking at all! We eventually unpacked everything and my room feels much more homely than last time as I've brought more little things to make the room feel more cwtchy. (I'll be doing a post looking around my room asap). Dad, Mum and I went out for lunch, headed to Tesco to do a food shop and then we came back to my room before they headed back to Wales.

I haven't been here a week yet but I have soooooo much work to do. 2 essays, 1 essay plan, 1 presentation all to be finished in the next week or so. Oh well, I guess that's university!

On Monday night I skateboarded all the way in to town and back, which is about 2 miles. It was awesome! I love it.

I'm having to take pictures on my iphone at the moment because I'm not quite sure where I've placed my camera charger and I've left the cable to transfer photos from my camera to the computer at home so bare with me and my pictures!

I painted my nails. wwwww all glittery! :)

SUPER SONG SUNDAY

This week I've chosen a song performed by Bruce Springsteen, U2 & Patti Smith live in Madison Square Gardens. The song is called 'Because the Night'. Both Springsteen and Smith recorded these songs as singles, but to hear them play it together with U2, well, what more do you want. Pure awesomeness. I love all of these artists & I've seen both Springsteen and U2 live - they are mind blowing!

I hope you enjoy it as much as i do :)

NEW YEARS BEACH DAY

New Years day we headed down to the beach. I think I rather the beach in the winter time because there are hardly any tourists, the beaches are mostly empty and the sound of the waves hitting the sand is awesome. We always go to the same two beaches, so on Tuesday I decided to drive to another one that I haven't been to since I was in primary school. We arrived in Cwmtydu at around midday with my mum and I also picked Carwen up on the way.

The wind was incredible! I was standing on top of the beach wall trying to take a picture with my penny board and the wind was so strong that the board would just fly off! Myself and Carwen walked up the cliff that sheltered the beach. When we got close to the top we could see miles and miles of sea. It was beautiful. I also brought my penny with me so we did some skating on the little road that leads to the beach. Another reason why I love winter time by the sea is because there are hardly any people, there is hardly any traffic which means that you can safely skate on the roads.

Once we'd been there for an hour or so, we headed down the single track road to another, more popular beach in Llangrannog. The place was absolutely packed. There was no room to park, there were loads of people on the beach and the pubs were even fuller. I managed to find a place to park tucked away by some boats. Carwen, Hendrix and I ran out to take some pictures and then jumped back in the car to come home. It was freezing there!

I love the beach and I love that I live so close to the coast :)

Happy New Year :)
