PENNY BOARDING // Virginia Waters

On Monday myself and three friends woke up early and walked over to Virginia Waters. They were going on their runs and I was going to do some skating. While I was there the day before I realised how awesome the paths were to skate on. So at around 8:30 am we all went our separate ways and I began to skate. It was so peaceful there with only a few dogs and their owners walking around. Having not been on the board properly since before my operation (back in March) I was both looking forward to a skate but I was also quite scared! Despite this I decided to skate down quite a decline and, oh my word, I was terrified! The board began to shake I was going so fast and the only options I had was either to jump off, which would result in a spectacular fall, or to ride it out. I picked the latter and survived, although my legs were shaking when I got off the board.

The best thing about that spectacularly sunny morning was how calm everything was. The water was calm with only the occasional duck rippling the steady surface, even the dogs were calmly walking beside their owners. When living 24 hours a day with seventeen people sometimes it is nice just to have that bit of calm. For most of my life I have used sport as a relaxing tool but because of certain issues I have not been able to do that for probably a year and a half and it is not the best thing in the world. But hey ho. :) Virginia Waters is a part of Windsor Great Park and is filled with fields, a lake and miles of trees which is very similar to West Wales. A home away from home :)

 

Virginia Waters // Picnic

Yesterday it was so nice, sunny and warm that we (the block) decided to walk over to Virginia Waters which is such a beautiful place. It only took us about 20mins to get there and once we found a perfect, quite secluded, spot we set up camp and ate our lunch. Myself, along with others, just sat and read for a while before going on a little walk around the lake. If you were to walk around the whole lake then it is about 4 and a half miles but we just walked two miles. When we walked further in to the park the place just got busier and busier. I guess because around here there aren't many fields to run around and chillax in, everyone seems to congregate in VW. Added to this it was Sunday and the last day of half term! There were children on scooters, people on bikes and dogs running everywhere. We saw one kid majorly stack it on his scooter - it was actually impressive! It was an awesome day and it was super nice to get out of the block. I also discovered some awesome new places to skate - the paths are so smooth. Perfect for Nelly (my Penny Nickle) and I to go skating :)

I'm a person that gets a bit claustrophobic if around people all the time (or I'm just a bit unsociable!), either way it's nice to get some peace and quiet now and again and VW is the perfect place for this. This morning I went for a skate around the lake and it was so nice to be alone and do my own thing, even if it was just 30 mins. (post to come) I will definitely be walking/skating over there soon, just to sit by the lake and read. Perfect.

I know, our kitchen is a mess. Well, was a mess because, you'll be delighted to know, it has been cleaned and no longer resembles a pig sty (well not as much).

SEA BREEZE AND ICE CREAM

 

'sup. So, I've basically been lying down watching a gazillion YouTube videos for the past week and a half so it was nice yesterday to go down the road to the beach. I haven't been to the beach in ages, since New Years day I think, because I've been away in university for over three months and not been home. Since I can't walk that far yet, we went to Aberaeron so I could walk along the harbour. It was such a sunny and beautiful Easter Sunday, however even though it was sunny it was still pretty darn cold so I wore the awesome coat my grandmother gave to me on the weekend (coming up on the blog on Wednesday) - it is actually such a gorgeous coat. I kind of forgot it was a bank holiday when we left home but when we drove in to Aberaeron I was reminded quite quickly as there were sooooo many people there!

 

On the way back in the car I made my dad pull over in a lay-by where the sun was just peeking through the trees - it looked so cool - so I could take some pictures. I realised once more how lucky I am to have grown up and to live in such a beautiful place. I know I complain sometimes that I live in the middle of nowhere, ages from proper shops, the cinema and other places but then I don't think I would have wanted to have been brought up anywhere else. I was talking with my friend Alaw last week and we were remembering some of the awesome times we had here when we were younger. We used to go out the house in the morning and not come back 'till dark and we'd go swimming in rivers, walk through woods and run around fields - we had the best times ever.

 

Now however, I want to live in a city and have my fix of civilisation (or maybe a city near the beach -a city in California - that'll be perfect!)  

 

 

 

NEW YEARS BEACH DAY

New Years day we headed down to the beach. I think I rather the beach in the winter time because there are hardly any tourists, the beaches are mostly empty and the sound of the waves hitting the sand is awesome. We always go to the same two beaches, so on Tuesday I decided to drive to another one that I haven't been to since I was in primary school. We arrived in Cwmtydu at around midday with my mum and I also picked Carwen up on the way.

The wind was incredible! I was standing on top of the beach wall trying to take a picture with my penny board and the wind was so strong that the board would just fly off! Myself and Carwen walked up the cliff that sheltered the beach. When we got close to the top we could see miles and miles of sea. It was beautiful. I also brought my penny with me so we did some skating on the little road that leads to the beach. Another reason why I love winter time by the sea is because there are hardly any people, there is hardly any traffic which means that you can safely skate on the roads.

Once we'd been there for an hour or so, we headed down the single track road to another, more popular beach in Llangrannog. The place was absolutely packed. There was no room to park, there were loads of people on the beach and the pubs were even fuller. I managed to find a place to park tucked away by some boats. Carwen, Hendrix and I ran out to take some pictures and then jumped back in the car to come home. It was freezing there!

I love the beach and I love that I live so close to the coast :)
